Store Exclusives - Camillus and Buck and Others??
When I purchased the Camillus Griddy at Menards (see previous post review), I remember being surprised that it didn't seem to be offered elsewhere, and its presence on the internet was minimal. Then, the other night, when I purchased the Buck Exert at Walmart (on clearance, it was originally produced in 2021), and did some online searching for reviews and such, I was surprised again to see it referred to as a "Walmart Exclusive". I guess it never occurred to me that major knife brands would produce exclusive models for big box store chains like Menards and Walmart. But they do. Apparently Swiss Tech is another exclusive made just for Walmart. Likewise, two models of the Old Timer brand are made exclusively for the Brass Pro Shops (Old Timer 152OT & 72OT in 2019, along with a Buck fixed blade knife).
The Buck Exert, Model 780, is a substantial folding knife with a 3.5 inch blade, weighing in at 4.5 oz. It has a liner lock and a tip-up belt clip. Designed for one-handed convenience, it features a thumb hole on the blade, reminiscent of Spyderco's knives. The blade is made of 420HC Stainless Steel with a hardness rating of 58-60 HRC. I'm not sure the composition of the handle, except that it does feature rubber inserts.
The price is all over the place. My purchase was for $29 on clearance, originally listed $48.98, probably when it originally came out, according to the sticker. That said, you will find it offered online for $19.99 in one place, $59.99 in another, with prices also below the $20 mark in others. I could have secured it cheaper, but I guess my purchase wasn't that out of line.
