SMITH AND WESSON BENJI - A Fun Little Knife, but Well Made
I find myself with certain 'categories' of collecting as I venture further into this hobby. One is what we might call the 'mini knife'. I now have several. One highly rated one from a well-known brand is the Smith and Wesson Beji Folding Knife. This time I allowed myself an exception and purchased it at full price, although that's not saying a lot since it is quite affordable. It retails under $30.
It features a clip that can be used either as a money clip or a belt clip. It is a tight clip and I'm not sure it's going to be easy to use it for either. But given its size, I think it's just as convenient to simply place it in ones pocket, even a coin pocket in your blue jeans.
The blade is unique with a kind of 'blunted' Tanto with a length of only 1.5 inches. The material is 8Cr13MoV Stainless Steel. The handle is G10 on one side and stainless steel on the other. It is kind of a small multi-tool, of sorts, as it offers a bottle cap opener at the back end, and the blade has the option of not only serving as a sharp blade but also a scraper.
The blade opens with a flipper, but it is not assisted, and requires some practice and use to get it to work smoothly opening all the way. I oiled mine and tried to adjust the screw where it pivots to free it up a bit, and with a flick of the wrist I can now get it to open all the way. That said, S & W does describe it as their "Ultra Glide Technology". The blade is secured in place with a liner lock.
A good EDC that takes up minimal space.
