The Most Collectible Knives - Lists to Consult and Compare for Average Collectors - Like Me!
Now that I've gotten bit more serious about collecting knives, I decided to see what others consider to be the most 'collectible', outside of the custom made market (i.e. mass produced).
One list is at: https://nobliecustomknives.com/world-most-collectible-knives/
Another list from Popular Mechanics: https://www.popularmechanics.com/adventure/outdoor-gear/g2975/best-pocket-knives/
And yet another: https://knife-depot.com/pages/20-iconic-knives-every-knife-enthusiast-should-own/
After a couple of recent Amazon orders (of which I'll review after they come in), these are the ones from the lists I now have:
- Buck 110
- Higonocami Folding Penknife (Japanese)
- Opinel #8 (French folding knife)
- Ka-Bar (although not the USMC Utility model)
They also include Case and the Swiss Army Knife, although different models than I possess. These knives also come up in other lists.
Of course, the Spyderco leads the lists along with knives like Benchmade (Bugout or Griptilian), but these are by far among the more expensive. Kershaw and CRKT also makes such lists, but often end up in the $60 to $100 category, or even in the hundreds. Not always bad for a very good knife, mind you, but you have to make choices on a budget. Yet a lot of folders also end up looking a lot alike. For now I'm concentrating on the unique, especially foreign made models like the French and Japanese one mentioned above, as well military knives, especially those issued to soldiers or endorsed by the military. I will be going to a gun show this coming weekend and am eager to see what is on display there. More to come....
Update: I would like to add this video as well. It seems very thorough and balanced on iconic collectable knives that are still available today - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9S1JkrR5TIo
