The GEAR AID Buri Knife - A Small, Portable, Rugged Utility Knife for Ourdoorsmen and First Responders
I originally bought this little knife because the sheath was MOLLE compatible. So, up until now, it has been attached to my WFS Tactical Sling Pack. Unfortunately I long ago misplaced the metal belt clip that comes with it. I wrote to the company and am hoping to get a replacement.
One reviewer referred to this knife as a "survival knife" as opposed to a "bush craft knife". In other words, this is not a knife you would typically take with you out 'in the bush'. It has a relatively short blade and would not be as much use for larger chores. It also features a glass breaker and bottle opener, items we might not associate with bush craft, as such.
GEAR AID describes the knife this way:
The Buri is a compact utility knife with a titanium-coated 3” drop point blade, suitable for cutting line, slicing food, breaking glass, and opening bottles. It features a full tang blade made of 5Cr15 stainless steel and a quick-release sheath with multiple attachment options. The knife also has a built-in glass breaker and is MOLLE compatible for mounting on packs or camp gear.
According to a search on the internet, this is what I found out about the steel:
5Cr15 stainless steel, often referred to as 5Cr15MoV, is a moderately priced, martensitic stainless steel known for its balance of moderate hardness, good toughness, and excellent corrosion resistance, making it popular for kitchen knives and everyday carry tools.
The hard sheath has a nice locking mechanism where the knife 'snaps' into place and must be released by pushing in on the tabs you see in the photo below. If you are carrying this as a tactical knife, this would be helpful especially if you want to carry the knife upside down to allow for a quicker retrieval.
I will probably continue to use it as a knife attachment, but once the belt clip arrives I may see more uses for it. The price point is good coming in around $29.
Note: I added a paracord lanyard to the sheath and see a good use for it now as a neck knife to use on fire calls. It is difficult to retrieve a knife in my bunker coat and this was can now sit just inside the coat. The knife also appears good as a rescue tool with a window breaker and serrated edge to the blade for cutting seat belts.
