My EDC Emsemble
I have only recently entered into the EDC (Every Day Carry) arena. I began by simply carrying a knife (which is my standard carry most of the time), but realized that many add to this other helpful tools for everyday use. My 'kit' is evolving, but currently contains three items, as pictured below. The small canvas belt pack (purchased through Amazon) contains a small flashlight (LizeAll, 120 lumens), a US Army Utility Knife (Camillus, 1973), and a small multitool (Ridgeline). I'll admit that the tools are not 'high end'. That said, they all seem of sufficient quality to handle the kind of tasks I anticipate encountering. The last item I am going to add is a small pry bar. This 'ensemble' is small enough as to not be cumbersome, which was a consideration. The flashlight is also intended as a potential self-defense tool, thus the stated amount of lumens. The knife was originally purchased at a military show. It reminded me of my father's military knife from the 1960s. Of course it doesn't possess all the gadgets of a fully equipped Swiss Army Knife, but at this point what it lacks my multi tool makes up for. Which was purchased at a local Fleet Farm for under $10, as was the flashlight for a similar price at a Dunhams Sports). True, I could have invested in higher end tools, but at this point my needs do not demand that. I suspect I am not unlike many others.
Update: As noted above I have now added a small pry bar, which fit nicely in the sheath that holds my multi-tool. Made from stainless steel it is very small, measuring only 5 x 3.46 x 0.35 inches . And for what would you use a pry bar of such size? Obviously not a large task, but rather smaller ones like scraping (labels, tape, etc.), pry a staple, turn a screw, bottle opener, opening paint cans, etc. It is a minimalist tool meant, in part, to spare wear and tear on your knife. I purchased the cheapest one I could find on Amazon for about $8.
